DRIVEWAYS are a common and integral part of residential properties. Unfortunately, traditional driveways are often direct conduits for polluted runoff to drain quickly from properties into the street and attendant stormwater infrastructure. The City of Burlington contracted with Stone Environmental and Peter Smiar (then at CEA) to develop succinct and attractive fact sheets showcasing materials, techniques, and strategies for improving the building and management of driveways in Burlington, in order to minimize stormwater runoff and pollutant loadings reaching the City’s stormwater system and the ultimate receiving water, Lake Champlain.
