Our History
Stone Environmental was founded in 1992 by Christopher Stone, a Hydrologist with the vision of pursuing innovative science. In 1995, David Healy, a leader in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), joined Stone to expand the innovative solutions the company offered. In the years since, our capabilities have evolved to include environmental assessment and remediation, water resources management, environmental systems modeling, data quality assessments, support for agrochemical product stewardship and registration, and geospatial analysis, visualization and web application development.
In 2016, Stone sold the “Investigations and Remediation Group” to Cascade Drilling. This offered the founders and leadership with the exciting opportunity to re-examine our values and philosophy. In concert with the sale decision, the shareholders made the decision to take this opportunity to establish Stone Environmental as an 100% employee-owned operation. As with other forward-thinking organizations, this decision afforded us the potential to continue into the future indefinitely. In 2017, Chris and David announced their decision to retire. Their roles were passed to long-serving Stone employees John Hanzas as the company’s new President, and Michael Winchell as Vice President.
Stone Environmental has consistently strived for progress in our company culture and our areas of expertise. Through a re-energized emphasis on collegiality, collaboration, and shared ownership, we are proud to say that all employees have now gained a direct financial stake in their own success. Together, we provide defensible and reliable scientific solutions in a variety of areas to complex environmental challenges, and—with respect to our original vision—continue to pursue innovative science.
