Ben Matthews Senior River Scientist
Ben Matthews is a Senior River Scientist with over a decade of experience in river engineering and watershed management. He specializes in developing solutions for impacted river systems, including flood hazard mitigation, green infrastructure design, and climate resiliency. Before Stone, Ben served as a River Management Engineer for the State of Vermont, assisting with recovery and preparedness efforts through several major flood events. Ben has been instrumental in developing fish passage and flood resilience models and has developed and implemented dozens of stream restoration projects across the central and northern Appalachian ranges during his tenure with The Nature Conservancy and Trout Unlimited. He holds a degree in Conservation Ecology from Sterling College in Northeastern Vermont, and has extensive training and experience with aquatic organism passage design, multivariate spatial analysis, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, and fluvial geomorphology.
