Cold Brook Dam Removal Video
Cold Brook is a roughly 5-mile long tributary to the North Branch of the Deerfield River. A small hydro dam was no longer generating power, and the private landowner gave permission for removal of the dam in order to improve fish passage for native trout and other aquatic organisms, and to reestablish natural stream flows and sediment transport.
The restoration project took less than two weeks to complete, with additional tree plantings done during the fall of 2018. The Connecticut River Conservancy and the US Fish & Wildlife Service will continue to monitor the site. Stone Environmental developed the dam removal engineering plans and provided construction oversight.
