Hands Mill Dam removal is now complete

Nov 18, 2024

Stone was closely involved with the recent removal of the Hands Mill Dam from the Jail Branch in Washington, Vermont, a project that mitigated flood hazards, improved aquatic organism passage, restored stream equilibrium and floodplain function, and improved water quality.

Working with the Winooski Natural Resources Conservation District, we were part of the project from conception through implementation, going back to 2016 when the partially breached dam was classified as a "significant hazard dam." It’s a perfect example of Stone's holistic approach to river restoration.
