Lake Watershed Action Plan for Maidstone Lake
Maidstone Lake, a 756-acre lake in northeast Vermont, has increasing phosphorus levels due primarily to incremental development and clearing in the watershed. In developing the Lake Watershed Action Plan, Stone identified relative contributions of nutrient sources and priority projects to reduce sediment and nutrient loadings. Lake shorelines, roadways, and streams were assessed in the field, and results were applied to develop a list of sites contributing sediment and nutrient loads to the lake. Stone used VTDEC's Stormwater Master Planning Unified Evaluation to prioritize the list. Ten projects were identified for further development, including outreach to landowners and conceptual design.
