Stone Welcomes Senior Hydrogeologist Michael Smith
Stone Environmental is excited to welcome Michael B. Smith to Stone as a Senior Hydrogeologist.
Smith joins Stone after 34 years of working for the State of Vermont’s Agency of Natural Resources and brings 40 years of experience in hydrogeology and geology. Within his role on Stone's Environmental Assessment and Remediation team, Smith provides senior technical expertise on integrated site characterization and remediation strategies for cleaning up of hazardous and contaminated sites.
“Michael is a nationally-renowned hydrogeologist with a career in tackling Vermont’s toughest groundwater contamination issues,” said Daniel Voisin, Director of Environmental Assessment and Remediation Services. “He is a leader in implementing best practices in site investigation and remediation that increase understanding of site conditions, resulting in better outcomes for owners. Michael strengthens our technical capabilities and ability to serve our clients.”
Smith has extensive experience designing and reviewing hydrogeological investigations and remedial activities for various Superfund, RCRA, Brownfield, and hazardous waste sites. He represented Vermont at the Interstate Technology Regulatory Council (ITRC) from 2000 to 2019 and worked with teams focused on developing guidance documents for site assessment and remediation, bedrock hydrogeology, DNAPL, and the development of conceptual site models.
