Youngs Landfill – Phase II Environmental Site Assessment
The Youngs Landfill started operation as a solid waste landfill in 1967. The landfill was closed in 1985 by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VT DEC) Solid Waste program. Environmental assessment started at the Young’s Landfill in 1989. Contaminants of concern include petroleum and chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), metals, dioxins and furans, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and 1,4-dioxane. Stone performed a limited site investigation in 2011 to assess groundwater and a data gap analysis in 2019 to review all historical files and identify gaps. Stone performed a partial Phase II ESA in 2020 and prepared a Site-Specific Quality Assurance Project Plan (SSQAPP) for review and approval by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
