Former Dry Cleaner Water Treatment Operation and Maintenance
In accordance with National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES), Stone operates and maintains a water treatment system to treat chlorinated solvent contaminated groundwater prior to discharging into a tributary of the Centennial Brook. A storm drain study was performed indicating that tetrachloroethylene (PCE) contaminated groundwater is entering the Dorset Street storm drain system and the outfall downgradient of the Site, eventually discharging to Centennial Brook. A stainless-steel well intercepts contaminated groundwater entering the storm drain and a dual diaphragm pump and submersible pump transfers contaminated groundwater through granular activated carbon treatment prior to discharging back into the storm drain.
